History Of The Stag Do
Tuesday 21st May 2013
A stag do, also known as the bachelor party (Canada, South Africa and the United States), a bull’s party (South Africa), or a buck’s party (Australia), is a party held for a man shortly before he enters marriage, to celebrate his “last night of freedom. The often thankless task, of organising the stag do, is traditionally the responsibility of the best man.
The stag do, goes back much further than you’d expect, as early as the 5th century B.C. It is believed that the ancient Spartans were the first to make a celebration out of the groom’s last night as a single man.
Since then, the events have generally grown more raucous, with the ‘stag weekend’ becoming a popular choice. Groups of stags travel the width and breadth of the country for a weekend fueled by alcohol and banter.
Popular destinations include Newquay, Bournemouth, Brighton & Cardiff amongst others.
Newquay has become a top choice for stags in recent years, thanks to it’s excellent coastal location, which lends itself to those looking to partake in adrenalin filled activities such as Coasteering(cliff jumping) & Surfing.
